The DCC Fitting Ltd Team
Our team’s railway and engineering experience gives you confidence that we know what we are doing in the model railway field.
Running our DCC fitting service.
Andy has years of engineering experience in the motor repair and manufacturing fields, and has become ever more absorbed in the world of model railway control since he was first introduced to it some years ago. From time to time, Andy participates in making high-quality sound recordings of railway traction units.
Andy is one of the most experienced DCC engineers in the model railway world and is dedicated to what he does. He always works to the highest standards, and will spend hours carefully tuning and adjusting every new class of model loco he works on.
When not at his workbench Andy is quite often to be found hanging out of a coach window holding a microphone, helping to record authentic rail traction sounds, both steam, diesel and electric.
A well-known railway author and life-long railway modeller, Chris is a qualified steam and diesel driver, having worked on the footplate for more than fifty years, since learning the ropes as an illicit guest on more than 450 British Railways’ steam and diesel locomotives, driving more than 200 of them, between 1958 and 1967. He also drove the Army’s steam trains at the Longmoor Military Railway soon before it closed for ever in 1969.
He worked regularly on the footplate of both narrow and standard gauge heritage railways, driving public passenger trains on many of them including the Festiniog Railway and The Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge railway, and at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton Road.
He also worked many steam-era BR signal boxes, and is now building his own 0 gauge loco shed layout loosely based on Old Oak Common Engine Shed Signal Box, where he spent hundreds of happy hours working the points and signals in the early 1960s. He became convinced of the benefits of DCC while planning this layout; meeting Andy Harris, Chris was very impressed by the quality of his work and his attention to detail, and they formed DCC Fitting together.
Chris was once a journalist – his first job in magazine publishing was on the now-defunct Model Railway Constructor, published by Ian Allan Ltd. His railway exploits were first described in a series of several articles ‘Confessions of an Amateur Railwayman’ in the leading monthly railway magazine British Railways Illustrated, between the October 2009 and February 2011 issues. Chris has since published two books about his railway experiences - they are on Special Offer to readers of this website - see above.
Chris brought a deep understanding of railway operations and locomotive management to DCC Fitting, enabling us to help you run your model railway realistically.
